However, due to diverse legal frameworks and business environments across the region, companies must thoroughly understand local market entry requirements before expanding. This article details company registration processes and key considerations for major Southeast Asian countries.
I. Singapore Company Registration
Registration process:
- Company Name Approval (1-2 business days)
- Prepare registration documents (articles of association, director and shareholder information, etc.)
- Submit for ACRA (Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority) approval (1–2 business days)
- Claim your registration certificate and open a bank account
Required Materials:
- Company Name (English)
- At least 1 shareholders (individuals or legal entities)
- At least 1 local director(s) (Singapore Citizen/PR/EP holder)
- Paid-up capital (minimum 1 SGD, no upper limit)
- Registered Address (must be a local Singapore address)
Important Notes:A Singapore company must appoint a corporate secretary within 6 months of incorporation.
II. Company Registration in Malaysia
Registration process:
- Company Name Approval (1-3 business days)
- Submit for SSM (Companies Commission of Malaysia) approval (3-5 business days)
- Collect registration certificate and complete tax registration
